In 1970 two houses in Coburg were bought to hold a mosque and a weekend Islamic school, and within three years they could no longer cope with the number of new Muslim migrants. That was the start of the Coburg Islamic Centre, also known as the Fātih Mosque, which is now raising funds to rebuild.
Daily prayers, Jumu’ah, Eid and Taraweeh are all held here. Boys and girls learn Qur’an with tajweed and memorisation through to ijazah, imams offer counselling, and children have camps and outdoor activities. Schools, churches and community groups can book a tour.
