Drivers on the Western Ring Road pass Sunshine Mosque, an Ottoman-style building raised by Melbourne’s Turkish Cypriot community. The Cyprus Turkish Islamic Community of Victoria moved here after earlier homes in Richmond and Clifton Hill, and the late Hasan Dellal managed the building project.
Friday prayer comes with lectures in English and Turkish, and there are programs for women, older members and youth. The mosque has handled traditional Islamic funerals for more than 20 years, from washing and preparing the deceased to the janazah prayer and liaison with the cemetery. Schools, community groups and the public can arrange a tour.
Please mention that you found them on Melbourne Local Guide.
