The Australian Islamic Centre on Blenheim Road is the flagship project of the Newport Islamic Society, a community organisation in Melbourne’s west incorporated in 1989. The mosque and community centre was designed by architects Glenn Murcutt and Hakan Elevli, pairing contemporary architecture with traditional Islamic design, and it is open to Muslims and non-Muslims alike.

The society’s aims are a place of worship, Islamic education and community outreach. It runs an Arabic school and Islamic academy, a library, and community events and interfaith programs for children, families and the wider public. It is a registered charity, and donations go towards this work.
