Muhammadiyah Australia College is connected to Muhammadiyah, a modernist Sunni organisation from Indonesia that runs thousands of schools and more than 175 universities and colleges there. The Melton campus on Killarney Drive teaches Foundation to Year 7, following the Victorian Curriculum together with Muhammadiyah’s principles of character formation.
Quranic studies start early, with students learning to read, memorise and understand the Quran, and this carries through into Islamic Studies and Arabic classes. Teachers are registered with the Victorian Institute of Teaching. After-school programs have included Scouts, martial arts and entrepreneurship.
