The Pultney Street shop is the first and largest MKS Spices’n Things, opened to serve Melbourne’s growing Sri Lankan community at a time when few shops stocked Sri Lankan and Indian groceries. It was founded by Navaneetharajah, and the chain now runs five stores.
A whole aisle is given to spices, whole, ground and jarred, alongside jaggery, Sri Lankan coconut biscuits, big tubs of Indian yoghurt, rice and pickles. The in-house kitchen serves curries with rice at lunchtime, with vegetarian, meat and seafood options, and makes parathas, Jaffna dosas, chole bhature and puri to order.
