Since 2019 the Fawkner Islamic Welfare Association has run Masjid Ar-Rahman in a converted building on Jukes Road, within Fawkner’s shopping strip, and the community is now raising funds to buy the property outright. Shopkeepers and shoppers from the surrounding halal businesses come in for congregational prayer.
Alongside the five daily prayers, Friday prayers, Tarawih and Eid, the association offers counselling and dispute resolution, chaplaincy, marriage and funeral services, Zakat and Qurban distribution and interest-free loans. A fathers’ group takes kids away together, and badminton and basketball run on Wednesday nights.
