Morwell’s Karen community, who came to Australia in the late 2000s after living in refugee camps on the Myanmar–Thailand border, opened Light of Hidayah Mosque in April 2018. They converted a former medical clinic at 6 Victor Street into a place of worship using their own savings.
The mosque has opened its doors to the wider Latrobe Valley community, with locals, officials and police attending its events.
