Abdul, who opened Konjo, uses a berbere spice mix of 25 herbs and spices made by his mother in Ethiopia, and it flavours many of the dishes. Breakfast might be spicy scrambled eggs or a spiced bean stew scooped up with crusty bread, and mixed or vegetarian platters are shared from one plate, eaten by hand.
The coffee is organic Ethiopian, served as espresso or in the traditional way: brewed in a clay jebena and served with frankincense and myrrh. Beans can be bought to take home. Abdul started out in 2004 with Konjo African Jewellery & Crafts, and Ethiopian crafts are still sold in the cafe.
