Kabana opened on Lygon Street in Carlton in 2021 as the sister restaurant to Rezah Afghan Kebab, which the family has run in Brunswick since 2003. The menu is traditional Afghan food: chicken Kandahari, lamb karahi, aushak dumplings, and lamb shanks on a mound of seasoned basmati rice.
The dining room mixes traditional and modern décor, with tapestries, Afghan-made crafts and paintings of Afghanistan’s heritage. Tables can be booked, and the family describes its approach simply: treat every guest like family.
