Local Muslim residents founded the Islamic Society of Ballarat to give the city’s growing community a place of worship and to connect with the wider Ballarat community. Its mosque is on Elsworth Street in Canadian, and the current president, Darren James, is the society’s third.
The Ballarat Islamic Learning Centre runs free Islamic education and Qur’an iqra classes in the mosque each week. The society also organises Islamic funerals and continues to develop the mosque.
