Islamic Museum of Australia

islamicmuseum.org.au

Australia’s first museum dedicated to Islamic art and culture is on Anderson Road in Thornbury, in Melbourne’s north. A not-for-profit foundation was set up in May 2010 to create it. The galleries cover architecture, calligraphy, painting, glass, ceramics and textiles, and an Australian Muslim History Gallery tells the story of Muslims in this country.

An education program welcomes school groups, and the calendar runs through art workshops, school holiday activities, Eid celebrations and an exhibition of Australian Muslim artists. The museum is also expanding with a new community centre.

Please mention that you found them on Melbourne Local Guide.
