Fiji Cafe brings two kitchens together: an Indian menu of roti, spinach bhajias, samosas and curries, and Fijian island dishes built on coconut cream, cassava and taro. Seafood is a strength, and fish lolo, cooked in a coconut cream and cassava sauce, is a house recommendation. Goat, fish, lamb, chicken and vegetable curries run from mild to fiery.
The sweets are made on the premises, from gulab jamun and cardamom barfi to vakalolo, a traditional Fijian sweet of grated cassava, coconut and sugar, along with dried snacks such as fried blue peas and murku. It’s at 90-92 Thomas Street, in the Afghan Bazaar precinct.
