Chinatown’s branch of D’Penyetz & D’Cendol sits at 204 Little Bourke Street. The halal Indonesian franchise runs more than 100 outlets around the world, and its menu centres on ayam penyet, fried chicken smashed flat and served with sambal, with dishes reaching as far as live mud crab.
For dessert there’s cendol, iced coconut milk with palm sugar and green jelly. The other Melbourne branches are on Lygon Street in Carlton and Clayton Road in Clayton.
