Albanian Muslims formed the Albanian Australian Islamic Society in 1963 and opened its Drummond Street mosque in 1969, the first in Melbourne. It serves the Albanian community and the wider Muslim community, with daily prayers open to all and Jumu’ah each Friday.
Albanian language classes run on Friday nights and Islamic and Qur’an classes on Saturdays, from kinder to Year 12. The imam is a registered celebrant, so couples can have a legal wedding and a nikah together, and the society also offers counselling, hospital visits and Islamic funerals. Visitors are welcome year-round, and school groups can book tours.
Please mention that you found them on Melbourne Local Guide.
