Australia’s first Islamic school began in Coburg in 1983 as King Khalid Islamic College, and this is its secondary arm. Secondary classes started in 1991 with Years 7 and 8, reaching Year 12 in 1995, the year the senior campus opened. The college was later renamed the Australian International Academy after expanding to Caroline Springs in 2014.

The Melbourne Senior Campus teaches Years 6 to 12. Students can take the IB Middle Years Programme and IB Diploma or the VCE, alongside Qur’an studies and a language other than English. Other subjects are taught in English, and the curriculum balances secular and Islamic education.
