The Australian International Academy began here in 1983 as King Khalid Islamic College, Australia’s first Islamic school. Its first Coburg buildings were bought in 1982 with a donation from King Khalid of Saudi Arabia, and the campus still carries his name.
Today the King Khalid Coburg Campus teaches Prep to Year 5 and follows the IB Primary Years Programme. Apart from Quran and languages other than English, lessons are taught in English. Older students continue at the academy’s senior campus, which offers VCE and the IB Diploma.
